Effective January 1, 2017, California Penal Code 30515 will prohibit the sale and general ownership of semiautomatic centerfire rifles that do not have a “fixed magazine” if that rifle also has at least one of the following features; a pistol grip beneath the action, a telescoping stock, a flash suppressor, or a forward pistol grip, among other things. If you own one of these rifles, you will be required to do one of the following:
1) Register it as an “Assault Weapon”, per California Penal Code 30900
2) Remove all listed features, or
3) Install a Towle AR CMB.
Function & Installation:
The Towle AR FMS securely locks the magazine in place while allowing for easy and quick re-loading. It can be installed in less than five minutes without modification to any Mil-Spec Receiver.
Note (1) California Department of Justice does not issue letters of compliance. As such, it is our opinion that this device meets the full intent of the new laws. The Towle FMS permanently fixes the magazine to the firearm in such a manner that the magazine cannot be removed without disassembly of the firearm action, per California Penal Code Section 30515.
